Blossom means to flourish or prosper usually in wealth. However, to the godly, blossom means spiritual growth; divine favour; renewed life in Christ Jesus; maturity in faith; unfailing trust in God; and living a righteous life. Proverbs 24: 1-2 states, do not envy the wicked, do not desire their company; for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about making trouble. This refers to only those who exploit the poor.
We blossom in wealth from all sorts of violence. Jesus said in Matthew 16: 26; Mark 8: 36; Luke 9: 25, what good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? Blossoming outside Christ Jesus is not profitable for the soul because it leads to eternal death. Job 20: 19 says, he has oppressed the poor and left them destitute; he has seized houses he did not build. “Surely he will have no respite from his craving; he cannot save himself by his treasure.
Who enables us to blossom?
Isaiah 66: 2 says, has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being? Declares the Lord. “These are the ones I look on with favour: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word. The foundation for blossoming is not in ungodly lifestyles but a humble and contrite spirit before God and reverence for his word. We must blossom in the spirit rather than in the flesh.
We must blossom in Christ Jesus according to his will to his glory. The righteous will blossom under God’s watch. Luke 12: 33 says, provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. We will blossom when we have a relationship with heaven through righteous life.
Why God want us to blossom
Jesus said in John 15: 8, this is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit. Most people who call themselves Christians these days do not bear fruit in the spirit. Romans 7: 4 says, we must bear fruit for God (paraphrased). Jesus said in Matthew 3: 8; Luke 3: 8, produce fruit in keeping with repentance. It is explained in Isaiah 45: 8… let salvation spring up, let righteousness flourish with it.
We cannot blossom without righteous life in Christ Jesus. Just as the soul needs righteousness to live, so does life need righteousness to blossom. Proverbs 14: 11 says, the house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish. When Israel repented and came back to God, Hosea 14: 7 said, people will dwell again in his shade; they will flourish like the grain, they will blossom like the vine- Israel’s fame will be like the wine of Lebanon. Are we blossoming as people of God in Christ Jesus? In order to blossom, we must consider the following:
We must take firm root in God
Ezekiel likened us to fruit trees and said in Ezekiel 47: 12 says, fruit trees of all kinds will grow on the river banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit. He implied that those planted in God will blossom like fruit trees. Jesus said in John 15: 4-5, remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself, it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the true vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. Jesus affirmed what Ezekiel said because he is the river of life.
We must be righteous in God
Psalm 92: 12-14 says, the righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like the cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, “The Lord is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.” This will be the testimony of the righteous.
We must trust and hope in God
Jeremiah 17: 7-8 says, blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes, its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” God demands our trust, belief, hope and faith as manure to blossom. Jesus said in Matthew 4: 4, “It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Jesus is the word of God.
We must desire to bear fruit
Some of us don’t care about our future or eternity. we have therefore, separated ourselves from his divine blessings. Jesus said in Matthew 5: 6; Luke 6: 21, blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Upon failure to blossom, John 15: 2 says, He (God) cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. To blossom spiritually is a delight to the Lord. Are we growing, stagnant or retrogressing spiritually?
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus Christ, we confess that we have not always desired material growth than spiritual growth, hence failed to bear spiritual fruit worthy of the kingdom. Plant us anew by your river of life so we may bear fruit in season and out of season. Help us to flourish to give shelter to the spiritually weak and helpless so they may also find comfort in your grace. We pray in your holy name, Amen!!
