Jesus assured us that he will come again. He said in John 14: 3, and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. This guarantees Jesus’ imminent return to take us with him. We will not stay here for 1Thessalonians 4: 17 says, and that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

Who qualifies for heaven?

No number was set as those who qualify for heaven. Revelation 7: 4-10 say, then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel… After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” This means only Jesus can save, none other can save us.

Who were those in white robes?

The identities of the great multitude in white robes are revealed in Revelation 7: 13-15 say, “these in white robes—who are they, and where did they come from?… These are they who have come out of the great tribulation, they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, “they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. A seal is an official mark that identifies an item as authentic. Heaven is not shut against God’s people. He will come for us.

Will Jesus come again?

The answer is yes and surely! The angels at Jesus’ tomb also confirmed that Jesus will return. They said in Acts 1: 11, “Men of Galilee, “they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” Jesus has gone to heaven and will return from heaven. It also means that we who may be alive on his return will see him with our naked eye just as the disciples saw his ascension with their naked eye. Jesus said in Mark 8: 38, he will come in his Father’s glory with the holy angels (paraphrased).

John is revealed from Patmos Island in 1John 3: 2, but we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. This truth is affirmed in Revelation 1: 7, “Look, he is coming with the clouds,” and “every eye will see him, even those who pierced him”, and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.” So shall it be! Amen. Paul also said in 1Corinthians 4: 5, judge nothing before the appointed time, wait until the Lord comes. 2Thessalonians 1: 7 says the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels (paraphrased). Jesus will return to do as follows:

To judge the world

He is coming to judge us according to every one’s deeds. Acts 10: 42 says God has appointed him as judge of the living and the dead (paraphrased). So Acts 17: 31 says, he (God) has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. The basis for judgment is in Revelation 2: 23, I will repay each of you according to your deeds. God knows all about us for Revelation 3: 15 says, I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you either one or the other! We will either be acquitted as hot or be condemned as cold. What judgment will ours be?

To execute his rewards

Every season has its own activity. 2 Timothy 4: 1 says, in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge. The reward is based on the charge as is written in Revelation, then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labour for their deeds will follow them.” Righteousness till the end as Paul says in 2Timothy 4: 8

To take us with him to heaven

We refer to what Jesus said in John 14: 3, and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. Jesus wants us to be where he is. Again, no one can challenge or impugn God’s prerogative. Job 21: 22 asked, “Can anyone teach knowledge to God, since he judges even the highest? God does what is perfect according to his will and his pleasure. May we wise up in the Holy Spirit and oil our lambs waiting in righteousness!

How will Jesus come?

He will come with his angels for Jude 1: 14-15 say, “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him. It is clear what Paul said in 1Corinthians 6: 2, or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world?  By an apocalypse, Mark 13: 27 says, and he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens. Are we ready to account?

When will Jesus come?

For the timing of Jesus’ return, Jesus said in Matthew 24: 36, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. In confirming what Jesus said, Revelation 6: 10 says, they called out in a loud voice, “How long Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge your blood?” However, Jesus says in Revelation 22: 7, 12, 20, Look, I am coming soon! Have we examined our lives in the light of scripture rather than the laws of mankind? Jesus said in Matthew 10: 16, be as shrewd as snakes and innocent as doves

How will he judge?

Jesus said in Matthew 16: 27, the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then reward each person according to what they have done. How Jesus will come is revealed in Matthew 23: 31, “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. His words will be the law for judgment on the final day, John 12: 48. Jesus said in Matthew 12: 36, but I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. Do we have oil in our lamps? Are we alert to the signs of his coming?
