John the Baptist was asked in John 1: 22, “Who are you?… What do you say about yourself?” He replied, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness. He truthfully knew who he was. We are for God or not. There is no middle ground. Revelation 3: 16 says, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spit you out of my mouth. Who are you before Christ Jesus?
Jesus knew who he was, one resolute to save mankind. He said in John 6: 39, I shall lose none of all those he (God) has given me, but raise them up at the last day. He said in John 4: 34, “My food, is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. He was devoted to his course and urged us to do the same. He said in John 9: 4, as long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Do you know who you are? There are biblical pointers whether or not we know how God feels about us:
Our devotion to God
Colossians 3: 23 says, whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Oftentimes, we live in hypocrisy: deceptive, weak values, falsehood, abrasive, or ungodly. To be devoted means in 1Peter 2: 12, live such good lives among the pagans that though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. Is God happy about our devotion to him? Colossians 3: 15 says, let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. Do we have peace?
Our true meditations
Joshua 1:8, keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. It is important that our souls should prosper more than the body. With a right thought before God, David said in Psalm 139: 23, search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. How is our meditation on God and his word?
Our obeying the word
God said in Ezekiel 36: 27, I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. God takes no excuses after he has given us all the strength we need to obey him. Philippians 4: 13 says, “I can do all things through him (Christ) who gives me strength.” What excuses do we make for our disobedience? Jesus says in 2Corinthians 12: 9, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” God’s grace defeats all excuses we can ever formulate.
Our mindsets we hold
Romans 12: 2, do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Sin is not only by our deeds or what we say, but primarily by our thoughts. and what we say. Paul advised in Romans 13: 14, rather clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. Do we have renewed minds? Jesus knows all about our thoughts. Psalm 139: 2 says, you know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
Meditation
We cannot deny who we are before God. Everybody knows who [s]he is. God is present everywhere. He knew us before we were formed. We are either God’s children or not. Romans 8: 14 says, those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. Have we dispensed with the crooked ways in our lives? Galatians 5: 24-25 say, those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Who are you in character? Jesus said in Matthew 6: 10, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Does God know you as doing his will?
