A sound declaration is founded on recognizing Christ Jesus as Lord. It is written in Romans 10: 9, if you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Only Christ Jesus gives the power to make a declaration, and it is given to the saved. Jesus said in Matthew 28: 18, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Colossians 2: 10 says, he is the head over every power and authority.
What is Jesus’ authority?
Explaining Jesus’ authority, Ephesians 1: 21 says, Jesus is far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. What Jesus’ name does is also explained in Philippians 2: 10-11, at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledges that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. A declaration is thus made in the name Jesus based on good standing before him.
How must we start with declaration?
There is no prescribed content for declaring what we want upon our lives. However, scripture may serve as a guide to what and how we may declare. Whilst many start their declaration with prosperity and riches, Jesus said in Matthew 6: 33, seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Our foremost declaration must be that we will seek first God’s kingdom and his righteousness. This, if declared every day, will keep us alert to avoid sin.
So, what must we pronounce?
Our desires must not be found opposing God’s plan for our lives hence, we must declare that God’s plan shall prevail above any other plan including our personal plans. Jeremiah 29: 11 says, for I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. God did not particularize further details of the plan. We must be cautious of what we desire and must conclude our wishes with Jesus’ words in Luke 22: 42… not my will, but yours be done.
What glorifies God
Psalm 9: 14 says, that I may declare your praises… and there rejoice in your salvation. We must declare God’s praise and rejoice in his salvation always. We must always declare his glory and work always. Psalm 19: 1 says, the heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of his hands. We must always declare his power to save us. Psalm 71: 17 says, since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.
God’s love will always be upon us
Psalm 89: 2 says, I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself. This is the panacea to all our fears. David said in Psalm 23: 4, even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Our confidence and assurance rests in God’s love for us. By this declaration, we should not be shaken at the storms of life.
Will do what is right before God
Isaiah 45: 19 says, I, the Lord, speak the truth, I declare what is right. God expects us to do right because he is a righteous God. It is upon doing what is right that our declarations will manifest. Deuteronomy 6: 18 says, do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight, so that it may go well with you and you may go in and take over the good land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors. The promised plan in Jeremiah 29: 11 was first to our ancestors and now available to us if we do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight.
To cling to God’s glory always
We must always declare the Lord Jesus as (1) the light for our path, 1John 1: 5 says, God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. Of the purpose, Psalm 56: 13 says, for you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life; (2) as the good shepherd, Psalm 23: 1 says, the Lord is my shepherd, I shall lack nothing (includes every need); (3) as the way out of every situation, John 14: 6 says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. These build our faith in Jesus always.
Affirm Jesus’ companionship
We must declare that Jesus is a faithful companion and friend because (1) he is merciful; Micah 7: 18 says, who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy; (2) he provides joy and peace for Luke 1: 79 says Jesus has come to guide our feet into the path of peace; John 16: 33 says, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Exercise faith in his sufficient grace
We must declare that we are under his sufficient grace. Romans 6: 14 says sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. 2Corinthians 12: 9 says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Everything about us is by grace, not works hence, a declaration of God’s grace upon our lives is necessary and indispensable. It is out of his grace that we enjoy strength, peace, his redemption, health and counsel. In declaring God’s grace, we acknowledge all the free gifts of life and all his goodness upon our lives.
Reflection
Is our declaration inwardly motivated for personal gain? Psalm 34: 15 says, the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry. Do we in righteousness credit God’s goodness as the basis for our declarations upon our situations? Psalm 34: 19 says, the righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all. How does our faith sit in all our declarations? 2Corinthians 5: 7 says, for we live by faith, not by sight. May the Holy Spirit lead us in our declarations.
